Power Collaborative Network
August 2004
Meeting Summary
The Personal Involvement Center was an astonishing venue for our August 2004 P.O.W.E.R. Collaborative Network (PCN) meeting. The many department staff members on the Praises of Zion Baptist Church campus were gracious in hosting our meeting. We applaud Pastor Renendez Grim, Program Director, for delivering such a great opportunity to visit the Personal Involvement Center facility, and abundant refreshments.
Many thanks to Ms. Barbara Lynn, for giving the official welcome from the Personal Involvement Center and all of the department heads for describing the many human services offered by the center. Also, many thanks to Dr. J. Benjamin Hardwick, Praises of Zion Baptist Church, for leading such a wonderful community development centre that includes human services, but not limited to, Child Care and Development, Foster Parenting (“Parentor”) and Mental Health programs.
Joy Tsuhako, was a special presenter that explained the variety of programs delivered by the Social Security Administration. Ms. Tsuhako shared information regarding the Supplemental Security Income, Disability Benefits, and the Ticket to Work Program. The Social Security Administration manages these programs even though the money comes from the US Treasury’s general funds. Ms. Tsuhako regularly attends the PCN monthly meetings and if would like to contact her for more information, she can be reached in the Torrance Office at (310) 891-0175. Thank you Ms. Tsuhako for your involvement with the PCN.
Dr. Edgar Guess gave the PCN some valuable information regarding how to improve our immune system and areas of importance for our health. Dr. Guess is a very prominent and familiar medical provider in the Los Angeles area over the past forty-five years. Among other medical treatments, he is responsible for some twenty thousand-baby deliveries in our community. We are very pleased that he and his wife, Michiko Jones-Guess provided a business opportunity that everyone is eligible to participate with and earn money. He is holding a special follow-up meeting for anyone that is interested in learning more about the product and the business opportunity this Thursday, August 12, 2004 at 6:30 PM. The location is the North Inglewood Business Center, 520 N. La Brea Avenue, Inglewood, CA 90302. The Broad Spectrum Group is hosting the meeting at their facility and if you need directions, you can call Donnicus Cook, at (310) 693-6505.
Dean L. Jones presented details about next month’s meeting that will feature a special presentation to recognize front line managers who help shape and motivate people to gain full employment and self-empowerment. Creativity and persistence is essential for helping people to follow through on employment positions in the Southern California area. These are notable attributes of community development specialists, who are actually career choreographers. Which developed the title for the program called Career Choreographers of 2004 Awards Program. The Los Angeles World Airports is hosting the meeting and presentation at the Flight Path Museum, next to LAX on Monday, September 13, 2004.
Sandra Kahara made a special presentation on her triumphant reentry to the corporate workforce and is open to a variety of job offers in the Los Angeles area. Juanita Douse, DPSS West County GAIN office, brought her to the PCN. Ms. Kahara is a Harvard Law School graduate and the University of California, Berkeley.
