Meeting Summary
January 9, 2008The P.O.W.E.R. Collaborative Network (PCN) extends an enormous appreciation to our meeting hosts for January 2008. The Broad Spectrum Community Development Corporation and the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network presented useful tax and individual development account that all human service agency providers can and should share with their clients. All of the presenters provided first-rate information and the hospitality was outstanding.
We were extremely impressed with the services and generosity provided by the Long Beach Job Corps. Thank you and to all of the staff members, especially Michelle Allen, Director and Sandy Annino for opening the campus for the meeting. Bryan Rogers, Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network, City of Long Beach welcomed the members and introduced Mayor Bob Foster, City of Long Beach who delivered motivational information related to working families and the benefits of Earned Income Tax Credit filings with the Internal Revenue Service. Mayor Foster stated that as low–income working families anticipate the arrival of W-2 forms in the coming days, the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network, in partnership with Broad Spectrum Community Development Corporation and Long Beach Community Action Partnership, is launching a large 2008 campaign to encourage low-income working families to utilize the free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to claim money that is rightfully theirs through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit, and other programs.
Councilmember Tonia Reyes Uranga, City of Long Beach – District 7, also extended support to this special kick-off the 2008 Tax Season Campaign for Free Tax Preparation and Financial Services for Low-income Working Families at the PCN meeting.

PCN started in January 2001, focused on job coordination for community residents in order to assist in public & private sector work placement. The PCN members are community builders serving to identify, nurture, & mobilize local assets by enhanced networking to rejuvenate economies, strengthen business investments, & ultimately build up civil society. The PCN meets monthly sharing job recruitment, funding, training, workforce projects, & other related topics at various member locations.
