P.O.W.E.R. Collaborative Network
Meeting Summary
August 9, 2008

The August 2008 P.O.W.E.R. Collaborative Network (PCN) meeting received fantastic energy and support form the People Assisting the Homeless (P.A.T.H) staff members. PCN extends special appreciation to Romona Holland and Veron Chapple for coordinating such a fine meeting.  PATH is a big supporter to PCN, having joined just over three years ago, and already repeating as a meeting host.  The hospitality was outstanding and P.A.T.H has proudly placed a photo and caption from the meeting on their web site at:  http://www.epath.org/index_01.php

Mary Sutton, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health works as a Service Navigator in the West Los Angeles Geographical Administration Service Area Five.  Ms. Sutton provided an insightful and highly informative overview on the depth of coverage the County of Los Angeles is delivering for the homeless population.  From emergency, transitional and treatment based housing to Section 8 Voucher programs, there is a tremendous amount of programs people qualify for to receive favorable assistance.  To contact Ms. Sutton, her office number is (310) 268-2510, email: msutton@dmh.lacounty.gov

Officer Cleon Joseph, Los Angeles Police Department furnished the PCN members with a great presentation encouraging job developers to share with their clients the fine opportunities for becoming a police officer.  All applicants must be at least 18 years of age with no felonies in their background. However, there are some misdemeanors that are taken under advisement and waived for service.  Good health is essential and physically fit for duty.  The main focus for candidates is to demonstrate good judgment and common sense in all areas that results in respect for others.  Officer Joseph’s email address is: 32770@lapd.lacity.orgThe PCN wish to thank Sergeant Britt-Nickerson and Sergeant Emerson Holder for their attendance and input to this presentation.  Currently, in an effort to ensure that the Los Angeles Police Department’s officers are reflective of the population it serves, African American males are urged to consider applying with the department.

Dean Jones, Director for the PCN announced that the Choreographers of Careers Awards committee is seeking nominations for the 2008 recognition program.  The awards program this year is hosted by the Los Angeles World Airports on Wednesday, October 8, 2008.  There are just two remaining award openings available for recognition at the 2008 program.  Should you want to recognize a staff member form your respective organization that is demonstrating outstanding outcomes for placing and/or training people now is the time!  Since 2004, over thirty people have received this awe-inspiring recognition by their peers.  Nominees are being accepted until September 5, 2008, or until filled.  The nominee and their respective supervisor’s name should be forwarded directly to the PCN office at; powersola@aol.com
